Yard sale success means more time for myself!!

The first thing I will say is that I ran 3.52 miles today after a hiatus of 5 days. The reason being YARD SALE. I worked my butt off ( I wish) to clean drawers, cupboards, closets and shelves. I still have junk that is hard to part with even though I know I won't ever use it. There is furniture that is just sitting there that was my moms, grandmas or even some things I bought that I do not use. What a shame. I keep thinking that someday when I am gone, One of my kids will cherish it, just like I, but times have changed. Fast paced, on the go and both spouses have to work in a household to make it. Where as when I was a little girl the mom stayed home to take care of the household. One income is hard now days. We have one income usually but I do sell a few Nappernoos www.nappernoo.com and I take care of dogs occasionally to make some extra money. That lotto ticket still hasn't hit yet but we still make it and have a nice life better than most I presume.
My yard sale was Fri and Sat and had good success. We sold a lot of stuff which we don't have to box it up and put it in my crawl space for the next one I have. Or it may go to St. Vincents or Salvation Army which is the closest charities for me. People are generally nice. All kinds of people come to yard sales and the ones that bargain the most are the ones THAT HAVE MONEY and can afford the pay for it at the store. It is so funny to watch people want to pay $1.00 instead of $1.50 or $.15 instead of a quarter. So funny to watch but so much fun. I saw an old man leave with screwdriver in his pocket as he was humming away. My instinct was to catch the thief but he was old and he was probably lonely ( I wonder why) so he got away with a $.25 screwdriver that he maybe needed, maybe not. I was happy it make him happy.
I will be opening my sale again this coming weekend to get rid of a few more treasures but sense it won't be advertised I can put my signs out when I want and stop when ever I want. I personally think it is fun because I like people and different kinds of people.
I hope to sell the rest of my stuff and the clutter and the dusting of stuff will be way cut down in my house. I hate doing it ( I will admit that) but do do it because I like my house reasonably clean. When I cut down the clutter I will have more time for me which is running, biking, walking and playing with my dogs.
I am starting to love being 59. I feel very healthy and young. I can run at least 3 miles, I love my hubby, kids, grand kids, dogs and home. My life is pretty good for an old lady!!!

It is frustrating!!

I haven't posted for a time and my birthday is past. I am now 59 and still feel young and quite in shape for my age. I have been doing great on my running 2-4 miles 3 times a week and my walking club is getting more known. So I exercise at least 5 times a week. What I don't do, is lose weight. My waist hasn't budged but my legs are like bricks. I guess that is good but will never see that hour glass look like Sophia Loren. We are all different and as long as we are loved and love I guess that is OK. I can wish can't I? I am sure my husband wished it too, even though he would never say it. I am sure all husbands think that way. It is when they say it out loud that is not appropriate. At least in my opinion. I am not a jealous person, though.
I was wondering how many of us jump out of bed and on to the scary scale every morning and then jump off with disgust. Why do I do that to myself? And the thing is, when I have lost weight, I sabotage it with eating something yummy. And the cycle continues!!
The point is that I exercise and love running so much. Not everyone can do it but do something. Start young and even if you are a smoker, you can still do it. For any exercise is better than none. I have never felt better and hope to for years to come. The point is not to give up on exercise just because you don't lose weight. Some things that are good for you are fun!!
Check out to good coleslaw recipe. It is the best coleslaw I ever ate. I will be posting recipes often. Next posting will be about cleaning out my house for a yard sale and talking about the people that want that item for $.10 instead of $.25. :-)))

Anyone can do it!!

I am a little intimidated about writing a blog. After all I didn't go to college, got married very young, and the less I remember about so called learning in high school the better. I didn't even realize the computer age until my youngest son wanted a computer when he was probably 12 and he now 31. I didn't learn it until I had to with my business but once you get it, it is pretty easy. At least the basic stuff. I now can pay bills on line with ease, face book on a regular basis, sell lots of stuff and actually know what I am doing. Anyone can do it. The i pod, i pad, blackberry ect. is still a mystery though because it cost a lot of money and that is not a priority in my life. I will keep my straight talk phone for a while which does a lot but I can't see the screen. I still use it to search just to say I can.
A lot of you out there grew up with computers and it is such a part of your life you couldn't understand why anyone would not have a lap top, an i phone, i pad ect. Some of us remember just sitting outside, climbing a tree, or even playing ball with the neighborhood kids. I can remember having a scavenger hunt at night in my small town and the people couldn't wait for you to come to their door. The town of Three oaks was an awesome place to grow up. The little town I live by now is still small, friendly but can you trust people now. Not really. That is a sad thing for me to say. I love the small atmosphere. If I ever had to move again, I hope it would be a small town.
I am almost 59 and with my running, country air, my husband, grown kids, grand kids, dogs and my nice house I live in, I feel healthier and smarter than I ever felt in my life. They say you get smarter with age. I believe they are right who ever you are.
The point is that running has changed my outlook on life. It makes you feel great inside and I want everyone to feel it. It changes every aspect of you life, even when you might have troubles. It helps you cope with just about anything. Try it !! you can do it if I can at my age. Just walk for 15 minutes to get your heart pumping. It will change your life and make you feel good especially about yourself. Just do it!!

What does my title mean to me?

The title of my blog is different but true. About a year and 1/2 ago I started running. At the ripe age of 57 I started running. Slow at first about 1/3 mile for a while, then 2/3 s and then 1 mile and so on. It took me about 3 months to get to 3 by slowly doing it at least 3 times a week. Now it is a breeze to run 3 glorious miles. The reason I started was that my granddaughter was in " girls on the run" and asked if I would run too. See the first year I walked it and didn't like the fact that all these people were passing me even though I was walking pretty fast. So I decided last spring( a year ago) to see if I could do it. I started running in my driveway which is 1/3 mile both ways so when I run 9 times back and forth it is 3 miles. It has changed my idea of exercise. It has changed me so much that I am starting a walking & running club in my little town of Harrisville, Michigan.
You might think that I was obese or way over weight to do this. Yes I am a bit over weight (about 20 lbs) but not the reason I exercise. I do it for my lungs, heart, limbs and well being. When you are committed to working out whatever your program is, you will miss doing it. I love it now and want to pass on the good feeling it gives me every time I do it. I exercised when I was younger, but never stayed committed to it.
My club started last night, and I only had 2 people but that was 2 people that exercised and walked a few blocks and maybe just maybe they will do it again. Hopefully next time, there will be more people but if not, I will still walk or run to my hearts content. oh yes, June 10 I will be 59 years young. I love running now..
